A Healing for California Fires – October 25th, 2007

by Rev. Danielle Marie Hewitt

My family and I live in Irvine, California. Although the fires started in Malibu early Sunday morning, they came home to us on Sunday evening, the 21st of October, while my husband and I drove to his parents’ house for dinner. On the way there, we saw the flames and learned that the Santiago Canyon fire had just begun. The home of my in-laws was scarcely a mile from the origin of the flames. Within an hour the air was filled with a choking, eye stinging smoke and we decided to evacuate them to our home. We packed up their precious belongings within 30 minutes and left with three cars loaded. Once at home we watched on the local news as the fire fighters tried to contain it. Eighteen fires are currently burning in Southern California with only partial containment, over 1 million residents evacuated and thousands of acres and countless homes burnt.

As my family and I watched the news over the next few days, I noticed the language being used. Phrases like “total devastation, flames raging out of control, complete destruction, containment timeline unknown, homes threatened, mandatory evacuations, etc.” Then I thought, “What are these 1 million people who have been displaced feeling and thinking? What is the rest of nation who is watching thinking? How much fear is running through everyone?

You may have seen the movie or read the book “The Secret.” If not, you have perhaps heard of the idea of manifesting your desires through the generation of thoughts. The Secret tells us that what we think about the most, generally comes to pass. As I contemplated this, a startling thought came to mind, if this many people are imagining the worst, then could they be helping to sustain or even worsen the fires through manifestation without realizing it?

When contemplating the energy of fire, consider that nearly all the classical methods of medicine and healing use a system of the four elements, earth, air, fire and water. The common denominator of the different elements is they are substances out of which the entire world is built. The ancients believed that we are made of earth, air, fire and water and the difference between the four substances are only due to variations in the proportions of the elements and how they are aggregated by the force of love or separated by fear.

This picture is an illustration of the book cover, “Wisdom of the Elements. The Sacred Wheel of Earth, Air, Fire and Water by Margie Mcarthur. The cover of this book depicts the sacred energies and their balanced relationship to each other. When I look at this picture, what comes to mind is that maybe we do not have out of control fires, but rather an out of balance sacred system. Is it possible to form thoughts that could realign the balance? Can a group consciousness apply the laws of attraction to regain the sacred balance of the four elements? Can we move from being afraid to being in balance?

Manifestation of our thoughts is at its most powerful when we are in a peaceful state of mind. Our brains function of several different levels (Beta, Alpha, Theta, Delta and Gamma.) Manifestation occurs most powerfully when we are in the Theta state (brain waves are very slow, but not asleep) To reach a Theta brain wave where we are most powerful we need only to find a quite place, slow down for just a few minutes and connect to the universal life force. In this momentary state of peace and quietness, ask for and picture the rebalancing of the four sacred elements, express gratitude for their healing and accept in your mind that it is done. The Secret tells us that one positive thought can counter 1,000 negative ones. As a group consciousness we can we heal the fires by manifesting balance of the sacred elements.
